Holiday Myths
This stimulating lecture is intended to provide clear information about religious-based, cultural events that have been accepted as national holidays. Christmas, Easter, Halloween, St Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Day have their roots in Pagan, nature worshipping belief systems yet they are still confused with Christian religious celebrations. Muslims and people of conscience are in need of non-biased, factual definitions of these holidays and practical solutions for the dilemma of those living in Western countries. This discussion opens the door of investigations and provides a basis for understanding these phenomena. Dr Abdullah Hakim Quick has travelled to more than 46 countries on lecture, research and educational tours. He embraced Islam in 1970 and thereafter pursued his studies at the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed a BA from the College of Da’wah and Usul-al-Din. Ge later read for his Masters degree and completed his PhD on the History of Islam in West Africa at the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr Abdullah Hakim has served as Imam, teacher and counselor in the USA, Canada and the West Indies. For three years he contributed to the religious page of Canada’s leading newspaper. He is presently an executive member of the Muslim Judicial Council, Cape Town, South Africa. Today’s world is in need of innovative rethinking based on original authentic sources. Dr Abdullah Hakim provides an example of this new, progressive thinking.
